What Is IBAN Validation?
An International Bank Account Number (IBAN) is the international standard for identifying bank accounts across borders. When you run an IBAN validation, IbanVerify confirms that the code follows the correct structure, includes valid check digits, and points to a real financial institution.
How an IBAN Is Structured
An IBAN can be up to 34 characters long and includes the country code, check digits, and the Basic Bank Account Number (BBAN).
Here's how it works:
-
Country Code (2 letters) -
The first two letters identify the country where the account is held.
Example: DE = Germany -
Check Digits (2 numbers) -
Two numbers that validate the entire IBAN using a mathematical algorithm.
Example: 89 -
BBAN (Basic Bank Account Number) -
The remaining characters identify the bank and account number. The format varies by country.
Example: 370400440532013000
